WELLINGTON — Sunoco logistics has setup a toll free community hotline that will allow residents to set speak directly with Sunoco Logistics for questions about a gasoline spill that forced people from their homes.
The January 12 spill spewed over 115,000 gallons of gasoline in the area after an 8-inch a valve malfuntion. The valve and multiple other valves on the pipeline were shutdown, but not before the spill forced people to evacuate the area.
Federal, state, and local government agencies all responded to the scene including the EPA. The EPA has also to monitor air quality to be safe.
“Our priorities are to protect people and the environment, bring the incidient to a safe conclusion, and minimize any impact from the incident,” Sunoco Logistics said in a press release.
About 30 homes remain activated at this time. Those people are staying with family members, and in area lodging.
So far no injuries have been reported.
To address concerns of those who’ve been displaced, Sunoco Logistics has set up a toll-free hotline where they can be reached. The number to dial is (855) 430-4491 and is manned 24-hours a day.
A community meeting is also scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 16 at the Wellington High School Gymnasium. Members from Sunoco Logistics, the U.S. EPA, and other agencies will be there to provide updates and answer questions.
