It’s no secret but it’s still hard to get past the shock. Gas prices are soaring.

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price for a gallon of regular is $3.93. However, many stations around town are starting at $3.99 for a gallon of regular.

With prices like that, each gallon could leave you feeling less in control of your wallet. But there are ways to save.

Many credit cards offer cash-back options on gas purchases, but with so many options, what’s the best choice?

We took a look and here’s what we found.

Some stations offer their own credit cards, promising savings to drivers. The Shell Platinum card offers greater savings with larger purchases.

Shell’s card can be used beyond the pump. Those purchases will qualify you to save even more at the pump. Spend $500 in grocery, dry cleaning etc. in a month and you’ll get $0.10 off a gallon.

For $1,000 to $2,499.99 spent, save $0.15 off a gallon. For purchases more than $2,499.99 a month, save $0.20 off a gallon.

Sunoco is offering drivers a straight 5 cents off a gallon, while BP is throwing in some up-front incentives. For the first 60 days, earn $0.25 off, per gallon for $100 spent. After 60 days, you’ll see $0.15 off a gallon for $100 spent.

Some experts say you don’t need a special gas card to see savings. Discover offers 5 percent cash back on the 1st and 3rd quarters, or half the year.

While the AMEX Blue everyday card gives uses a straight 2 percent back on gas. Chase Freedom averages 3 percent cash back and, as a bonus, they’re throwing in an extra $200.
