HAMBURG, N.Y. — NBC and Weather Channel  producer Scott Newell has been on the ground near Buffalo since Monday after more than 5 feet of snow pounded the area.

During some downtime, he was able to give us details about what was going on in the area around him.

When he first arrived, he and his crew ended up at a local fire department. There was nowhere else for them to go. During his time with them, he says they’ve been getting calls non-stop. Most of those calls are carbon monoxide related since many home exhaust systems are covered by the snow.

He also says the city is running low on fuel, and the fuel that is left is being rationed out.

Newell hopes that his crew will be able to depart the area in the next day or two.
