CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns received approval for Phase 2 of the interior and exterior modernization of First Energy Stadium before the Cleveland Planning Commission Friday morning.

Representing the Browns was Don Williams, of Gensler.

This summer, the Browns chose the Los Angeles-based Gensler firm to design the major renovations to the stadium.

According to Gensler, the stadium needed to be modernized in order to accommodate new sponsorship revenue streams.

A multi-phase, two-season effort will revitalize the stadium and fan experience.

Renovations completed for the 2014 season include state-of-the-art, 40′ x 192′ HD video board technology – roughly three times the size of the original boards, as well as ribbon-board displays, dedicated sponsor decks, improved circulation elements and a new sound system.

The 2015 renovations will encompass an extensive interiors and branding upgrade to the main concourse, concessions, suites and hospitality spaces, including full renovation of the stadium’s two clubs.
