ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — An auxiliary police officer was fired Wednesday after the Rocky River Police Department discovered the officer had conducted traffic stops, which is not permitted as a volunteer officer.

According to Rocky River Police Chief Kelly Stillman, the officer had stopped people using a police cruiser, telling them about equipment or speeding violations.

Officials said dash camera footage from the vehicle revealed that he had been pulling people over. Auxiliary officers are only permitted to use police vehicles to direct traffic or patrol football games.

The incident has received public outrage after realizing the officer will not face charges.
