MEDINA, Ohio — Medina County property owners are trying to keep surveyors for the controversial NEXUS natural gas pipeline project off their land.

This is a case that could have far-reaching implications. Several homeowners are adamant about not letting surveyors onto their land.

Dozens pack a courtroom Monday in Medina County Court to oppose the building of a pipeline that would run through the area. Attorneys for NEXUS are asking a judge for a restraining order to get around homeowners who won’t allow such surveys.

Attorneys for homeowners will also be in court, saying law requires NEXUS to get federal permit that they may not get for a year or longer.

The natural gas pipeline would be 36″ in diameter and would be 250 miles long. It would start in Columbiana County and terminate in Ontario, Canada.

Homeowners like Marcus Giebler say they’re not giving up without a fight, “like this sign here says we will not allow them on our property. Now if there is a court order, we might have to step back…we worked all our life for what we have here.”

The group Sustainable Medina County has collected 4,000 signatures and insists on being heard on this issue.
